With later feather plume finial above a gilt and cream stripe tôle shade, the fluted pedestal base fitted with three foliate cast candlearms with stiff-leaf modelled drip-pand and waisted bôbéches on a dished leaf and Greek key decorated base, stamped CP beneath a crown, 89 twice, C.90, 8/9 and 1/4, previously drilled for electricity and currently wired to the top of shaft

The stamp of a CP beneath a crown found on this bouillote lamp is almost certainly the inventory mark of the Chàteau de Chandeloup, formerly the residence of the duc de Choiseul, who was in exile there from 1770-1774. Upon his death in 1785 it was sold with its contents to the duc de Penthièvre, Grand Amiral de France and grandson of Louis XIV, who also used the marque au feu for its contents.
