A KUNITOMO WAKIZASHI AND MOUNT
The blade, iorimune, honzukuri carved with dragon and ken on the ura, the omote with kensaku (coiled rope) with strong curve (saki-zori) and medium point (chu-gissaki) tightly forged ko-itame, notare hamon (tempered edge) of intense ko-nie, kaeri boshi, suriage tang with two holes, signed Echigo no kami Fujiwara Kunitomo (1600-1650), 40.2cm.
The mounts, the lacquered kawari-nuri-zaya scabbard comprising shakudo-nanako kurikata, iron kojiri inlaid with gilt shima and lacquered kojiri; a mokkogata iron tsuba pierced with a section of a water wheel, signed Yamakichibei; iron fuchi-kashira, decorated with shogi pieces in gold inlay, signed Joshu Nishijin ju Shoami Ichirobe Masanori saku; the leather bound tsuka bearing a pair of shakudo menuki depicting three kiri, mid Edo period.
