A GERMAN SILVER-GILT COFFEE-POT

On circular stepped base chased with a rim of vines, the egg-shaped body resting on three swan feet, the spout shaped as a swan neck and head, the upper part of the body and the detachable cover with vine borders, with acanthus bud finial and chased ebonised handle terminating in silver-gilt lion head, engraved with crowned monogram.

The crowned monogram is that of the Grand Duke Mikhail Pavlovitch of Russia (1798-1849), fourth son of Tsar Paul of Russia and brother of Tsar Alexander I. He married in 1824 Princess Charlotte of Würtemberg.
The coffee-pot appears to have been made to add to the extensive service ordered to the most famous Parisian makers of that time.
