These chairs were part of the furniture of the s.s. Simon Bolivar
Nieuwenhuis was commissioned by the K.N.S.M. to design some interiors for their steam ships. In circa 1925 he designed, in cooperation with some other artists and firms, the interior for the s.s. Simon Bolivar. The chairs offered for sale here are designed by Nieuwenhuis for this ship.

cf. Hanneke Olyslager, Theo Nieuwenhuis Sierkunstenaar en Meubelontwerper, Rotterdam, 1991, p. 43 for and illustration of the interior of the ship where the chairs are just visible
