The attribution was first suggested by Peter Schatborn. A comparable landscape by the artist, signed and dated 1649, is in the Prentenkabinet, Leiden (W. Bernt, Die Niederländischen Maler und Zeichner des 17. Jahrhunderts, Munich, 1980, V, no. 444. Another is in the Museum Boymans-van Beuningen, Rotterdam (G. Jansen, G. Luijten, Italianisanten en Banboccianten, Rotterdam, 1988, pp. 100-1, no. 60).
