According to Henri Brownrigg in his catalogue Betel cutters, London, 1991, p. 44, these Chinese betel cutters are extremely rare. Apparently only ten other examples in private and museum collections are known. They were only used by the small sociale elite and seem to date, according Brownrigg, from the 17th/18th Century.
