The inscription, dated Qianlong xinmao xia, corresponding to summer, 1771, may be translated, "From the plains at Mont Song where a mountain range flows into Khotan they produced this jade finery. So I had people ask around to try and find out in what family in Beigu, Xiliang, they had been handing down (a dish) with such immortal feeling"
