Formed as a shell on three dolphin supports, with undulating gadrooned rim, the border pierced with scrolls and geometric designs, the scrolling handle formed as a mermaid chased with scales sitting upon a bed of seaweed, marked on rim--16 1/4in.(41.2cm.) long

Several examples of this form of basket are known by Paul de Lamerie, one of which is illustrated in P.A.S. Phillips,Paul de Lamerie, 1935, plate CLII. Others include one by Phillips Garden of 1755 sold from the Collection of the late Hilmar Reksten, Christie's, London, May 22, 1991, lot 48. Another by the same is at Polesden Lacey, Surrey.
