CIRCA 1740, MAKER'S MARK OF CHRISTIAN HILLAN

Of baluster form on spreading circular base chased overall with shells, flutes, and foliate scrolls, the body repousse with a band of cows and a drinking satyr below a scroll cartouche engraved with a crest, with foliate scroll handle, applied uder the lip with a mask amid rocaille, maker's mark only struck three times under base, and with scratch weight 9=2--4 1/2in.(11.5cm.) high
