MAKER'S MARK OF FRANCIS GARTHORNE OVERSTRIKING ANOTHER, LONDON, 1680

Of circular form on spreading molded foot, the lower body chased with alternating vertical acanthus and palm leaves, with a band of trailing bellflowers and leaf-clad scroll handles, the flat-domed cover chased with conforming decoration and surmounted by a leaf-clad egg-form finial, engraved on side with a coat-of-arms upon crossed fronds, and on the other side, with a crest within fronds, marked on side and cover--6in.(15.2cm.) high

The arms and crest are those of Streatfeild, probably as borne by Henry Streatfeild of Chiddingstone, Kent, who was born in 1639. He died in 1719.
