The scrolled and shaped bracket before a hinged lid over two short drawers, the surface white-painted and outlined in blue, green and orange, the lid and case with a floral bouquet and flanked by two birds, the case with a central flower flanked by two birds over two red-painted short drawers with black yellow and green floral decoration--16in. high, 13in. wide, 7½in. deep

The attribution to S.S. Plank is based on a nearly identical example in the collection of Austin J. Fine slold by Sotheby's, January 30, 1987, lot 955. The box is inscribed "Made by S.S.Plank, August 20, 1888, Near allensville, Pa., price $1.00..."
