Château Mouton-Rothschild--Vintage 1953
Pauillac, 1er cru classé.
First lot with top-shoulder level; second lot with high-shoulder level; excellent color and labels
"A luscious wine, almost a caricature of itself. 16 notes. Lovely
yet leathery in the early 1960s. Glorious in the 1970s with
spicy, gingery Cabernet Sauvignon aroma. Sweet, blackcurrant
scented; fleshy exciting, heart on sleeve: the Tchaikovsky of
claret. Some acidity beginning to peep through in the mid-1980s
but still glowing, glorious, a most exciting drink. Five stars.
Will continue to thrill." JMB
