The body cast in the form of an auricular shell, on spreading octagonal foot and supported by a seated beast, applied under the lip with a mask, with ribbed serpent scroll handle, engraved under the lip with a crest, struck with maker's mark only under foot--4 1/8in. (10.5cm.) high

A number of similar cream jugs are recorded, most of which are unmarked, but all those which are appear to bear the maker's mark of David Willaume. An unmarked gilt example was sold by Christie's, London, April 27, 1983, while three unmarked examples of similar form were sold from the collection of the late Hilmar Reksten, MAy 22, 1991, lots 90-92.
