AN EDO KINKO TSUBA
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1850)
The thick, oval iron plate has a flat and smooth surface and is decorated in high relief with two gold crests of hanging wisteria (sagari fuji) and one shakudo crest of a three-level pine tree (sangai matsu) on the face. The reverse bears one fuji crest. The kogai hitsu-ana is plugged with cat-scratched gold--height 8.0cm., width 7.7cm., thickness 5.0mm.
