A MITO STYLE KOZUKA
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1750), SIGNED KENSEIDO KATSUTOSHI KOKU (HORU)

The shibuichi plate is decorated in high relief with the theme of Aritoshi Myojin. A man holding a lantern under a broken umbrella looks at a swallow flying across the moon. The inlay is in shakudo, gold, silver and shibuichi. The reverse is carved in brushstroke style (katakiribori) with a torii and pine tree with clouds--length 9.8cm., width 1.5cm., thickness 5.25mm.

There are at least twelve artists who used these same kanji for their name. This artist, of the Chuyo (Nagatoshi) family, was the least known of the group.
