The vase-shaped body on a square spreading base repousse and chased with foliate scrolls and a band of palmettes and lobes, the lower body with mythological scenes below an acorn vine on a matted ground, engraved on one side with a coat-of-arms flanked by the standing figure of Ceres and on the other side with the Royal Arms enclosed by the motto BRITANNICUS SECILIA ET MELITA CONSULATUS GENERALIS flanked by the standing figure of Britannia and a lion, the two handles in the form of tied stems terminating in flowers, with gadrooned rim, the domed cover lobed and with acanthus bud finial, the cover with a presentation inscription, inscribed on the cover interior G.C. SHEFFIELD January 1812, marked on base and cover--14 1/2in. (36.8 cm.)
