Of vase-shaped form on a spreading circular base chased with a band of matted dentilation, the body elaborately chased with foliate scrolls and rocaille on a matted ground enclosing an applied mytholigical scene with Poseidon on one side and an engraved crest within a foliate scroll cartouche on the other side, the scroll spout with mermaids, foliate scrolls and rocaille below a band of vertical palmettes and terminating in acanthus, with tied foliate scroll handle with ivory insulators and applied stiff-leaf rim, the hinged domed cover with conforming decoration, surmounted by an acanthus and shell finial, marked under base, on cover and finial--7 7/8in.
