The high relief of the chasing and the fine detail of the plaque suggests an attribution to the workshop of Jacques-Frederic Kirstein (or Kirchstein) of Strasbourg, whose glazed plaques were exported and set into boxes in Geneva, London, and other box making centers. The present box is stamped with a Dutch control mark in use from 1814-1893.
