A ROBIN'S-EGG-GLAZED LANTERN-SHAPED VASE
IMPRESSED QIANLONG SEAL MARK AND OF THE PERIOD

The sides moulded with a pair of inverted vase-form handles below the high shoulder, covered with a finely controlled mottled glaze of rich turquoise and lapis blue tone continuing over the slightly lipped rim to the interior and on the base--9 1/2in. (24cm.) high

Vases of this type, referred to as denglong zun, are more often found with Jiaqing and Daoguang seal marks, however cf. several Qianlong examples illustrated in Oriental Ceramics, The World's Great Collections, Kodansha Series, vol. 7, in the Musee Guimet, fig. 184 from the Grandidier collection; another is illustrated in Keitokuchin Jiki, pl. 88, bottom left, in the Jingdezhen Ceramic Museum
