A FINE LARGE IRON-RED AND UNDERGLAZE-BLUE DRAGON DISH
QIANLONG SEAL MARK AND OF PERIOD

Painted in strong blue tones and enamelled on the interior a 'rouge-de-fer' five-clawed writhing dragon and a 'flaming pearl' amidst underglaze-blue crested waves, the cavetto encircled by a double line border and a frieze of four dragons amongst a plethora of cloud scrolls, repeated on the exterior, the rim with a formal border of waves (polished iron spots to the interior)--19in. (48cm.) diam.

Cf. an almost identical Qianlong marked dish in the Idemitsu Museum illustrated in the Min Shin no Bijutsu, pl.172 and one in the Umezawa Kinenkan Museum, pl. 154; a similar piece was also exhibited in the Exhibition of Imperial Life in the Qing Dynasty, Singapore, 1990, Catalogue, p. 12 and is now in the Shenyang Palace Museum; a Qianlong dish was sold in Hong Kong, 15 May 1990, lot 20
