C.F. Sorensen was born February 8, 1818 on the Danish Island of Samso. In 1846 at the age of 28 he was dispatched aboard a Danish frigate to the Mediterranean to sketch the landfalls. He painted many types of ship's in various weather conditions during his career. His works can be found in the Maritime Museum of Kronberg Castle, the National Gallery, Oslo and the Frederiksberg Museum, New Zealand.
