The flower-wreathed frame is finely carved in the Louis XVI fashion of the early 1780s, similar frames were executed for Hagley Hall, Warwickshire, and the flower carving also relates to pedestals supplied for George, Prince of Wales' rooms at Buckingham House in 1782. Laurels and Roman acanthus issue at the centres and corners from whorled scrolls of serpentined and reeded mouldings that are applied to its antique stippled and fretted facia.
