Patterns for related George IV pier tables with plinth-supported columns and pilasters in a robust antique manner popularised by firms such as Messers Morel and Hughes and featured in T. King, The Modern Style of Cabinet Work Exemplified, 1829 (E. T. Joy, Pictorial Dictionary of British 19th Century Furniture Design, Woodbridge, 1977, p. 542). The same patterned rail with quatrefoiled ribbon-guilloche featured on a related pair of tables, sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 29 March 1984, lot 117.
