A MASSIVE CANTON FAMILLE ROSE PUNCHBOWL
Second quarter 19th century
Brilliantly enamelled in a vivid Canton famille rose palette, the exterior with two large court scene panels, one a noblemen's banquet, the diners being entertained by an animal act, and the other a court ladies' dinner party, one guest asleep at her table and to the side a private room with a toasting couple, smaller figure scenes on the sides including Mongolian ponies, the interior showing a continuous procession of immortals, most riding mythical beasts on waves or through the clouds, to an Emperor's court, and in the center a large roundel showing the immortals approaching the court on foot, each with his or her attribute, courtiers bearing tribute alongside, with carved wood stand
