Circa 1737-41, traces of blue crossed swords mark to base, contemporary mounts
Crisply modelled by J.J. Kändler and J.F. Eberlein as a shell with iron-red, green and manganese markings enriched with gilding, on three feet, two formed as richly gilt shells, the other as a bearded water-god's head flanked by gilt scrolls and surmounted by a gilt shell, the interior mounted with a gilt-metal cylindrical container and divider surmounted by a pierced dome cover, the underside with a grater for nutmeg (minute chip to gilt shell above bearded head and to beard, some very slight rubbing to gilding of cover, minute chipping near screws of hinge)
