This service was made for the Cabinet Minister Count Johann Christian von Hennicke, Vice-Director of the Meissen factory in 1739. The arms are those of von Hennicke before he was made a Freiherr in 1741 and a Graf in 1745. For two plates from this service in the Hoffmeister Collection, see Meissener Porzellan des 18. Jahrhunderts, Katalog der Sammlung Hoffmeister (Hamburg 1999), Band II, pp. 532-533, nos. 350 and 351 and pp. 592-593. Also see a dish from the same service sold in these Rooms on 3rd October 1988, lot 149.
