Document in French, a secretarial copy of the correspondence between Grand Marshall Bertrand and the Imperial family regarding the will of Napoleon, with autograph annotations by Bertrand, dated 4 August 1834 to 6 June 1840, 36pp, 4°, including a copy of an extract from Napoleon's will written at Longwood, St. Helena, 15 April 1821 (spotted), tied at top left corner with red ribbon.

Henri-Gratien Bertrand, grand marshall of the palace, and his wife voluntarily accompanied Napoleon into exile on 15 October 1815. When Napoleon died on 5 May 1821 leaving his estate to his son, he left his friend Bertrand as his executor. When Napoleon II died in 1832, the Imperial family disputed the will, wishing to divide the property between them.
This correspondence is hitherto unpublished.
