GEORGE III (1738-1820)
Warrant on paper, signed 'George R' at the head, St. James's, n.d., 2pp with integral blank leaf, folio, to Henry Fox Esq., 'Paymaster General of our Guards Garrisons and Land Forces', subsequent to the Act of Parliament passed in the first year of his reign, allocating the sum of two hundred thousand pounds 'to give a proper compensation to the respective provinces in North America for the expenses incurred by them in the Levying Cloathing and Pay of the Troops', out of which 'the active vigour and strenuous efforts of our province of Virginia in North America...have merited the sum of eleven thousand one hundred and ninety five pounds', countersigned by Barrington, James Oswald and Gilbert Elliot (creased on folds with some small tears to folds, outer slightly discoloured).
With seven other similar warrants, relating to other provinces of North America, namely:
New York £25,000; Connecticut in New England £46,642; Pensilvania and the government of the counties of Newcastle, Kent and Sussex on Delaware £28,545; Rhode Island £9,328; New Hampshire £9,328; New Jersey or Nova Cesaria £9,328; and Massachusets Bay £6,634.
