A PAIR OF RESTAURATION BRONZE AND ORMOLU FIVE-LIGHT CANDELABRA
Each with a draped maiden on tiptoe holding aloft an urn cast with stiff-leaves and foliage issuing a pair of large S-scroll branches of foliage and drip-pans, around a central lotus and foliate finial, on a half sphere applied with stars, the cylindrical column flanked by a pair of eagles seated on thunderbolts, the rectangular verde antico plinth with classical reclining lady and Cupid in relief, the sides with masks and cornucopiae, on a rectangular plinth cast with lotus leaves and palms, fitted for electricity, restorations and some replacements, the top possibly originally with additional branches and tier

A possible source for the draped figure standing on one foot on a globe is the winged support that holds a reflecting board over Gravure in the series showing Panneaux et Frises de l'atelier de Peinture du C.I. in C. Percier and P.-F.-L. Fontaine's Receuil de Décorations Intérieures, Paris, 1801, pl. VII.

An identical pair, with branches arranged slightly differently, was sold by Capt. Sir Everard Ratcliffe, Bt., Rudding Park, Yorkshire, Christie's London, 16 October 1972, lot 116.
