The scrolling and twisting foliage and the unusual use of a demi-patera, is seen on some of the sketches by Gillows of London and Lancaster circa 1790 and illustrated in L. Boynton, Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800, Royston, 1995, figs. 219 and 221. A related oval mirror with trailing vines was illustrated by Drury and Drury in The Antique Dealers' Fair and Exhibition Catalogue, London, 1951.
