George Harrison
An autograph letter, signed, in blue ballpoint pen, from George Harrison to a fan called Margaret, 28th December, 1962, writing from Hamburg, Star Club, Hamburg Altona, Grosserfreeheit 39, Germany, thanking her for her letter...I hope you had a good one [Christmas] or at least a little better than ours. The Germans have Christmas on the 24th, still we didn't bother telling them that they had "got it wrong again". When we arrive back in Liverpool we are playing at the Grafton...then we go to Birmingham for about 3 days [we record "Thank Your Lucky Stars" while we are there].....we are doing a couple of Caverns and Lunch time sessions. The last night on the Cavern I had had a few drinks, still never mind eh!. We only have 5 more days to go, and then we'll be away from this place for good [I HOPE].....you might have guessed I dont realy [sic] like writing letters, so before I get a bore, Cheerio. Nothing personal, Happy New Year & lots of Love from George xxxx Harrison, 2pp., in common mount with the corresponding envelope and a black and white photograph of subject performing on stage -- 9¼x7½in. (23.5x19cm.), overall measurements -- 18½x18in. (47x46cm.) framed

This letter was written during The Beatles' last stint in Hamburg. After the release of their first single Love Me Do on 2nd October, they had been increasingly busy. Brian Epstein had begun to secure more non-Liverpool venues, as well as radio and television interviews, consequently their prior commitment to the Hamburg dates meant that they were becoming increasingly irksome. The Beatles travelled to Brimingham to record Thank Your Lucky Stars at Alpha Television Studios on 13th January, 1963 - it was to be their most important televsion appearance to date.
