Private Philip Stanton was awarded the M.S.M. and Mentioned in Despatches for his services in 23rd Battalion, Rifle Brigade, in the Afghanistan operations, latterly with the rank of Acting Sergeant (London Gazettes 14.1.1920 and 3.8.1920 refer).
