Although there is nothing to directly link this cheval mirror with Gillows of London and Lancaster, the high quality of the timber and craftsmanship would suggest their workshop. A related cheval mirror with reeded legs was sold anonymously in these Rooms, 6 June 1996, lot 88, while another, closely related to the present lot and possibly by Gillows was sold by The Lord Brownlow and the Trustees of The Brownlow Chattels Settlements, Belton House, Lincolnshire, Christie's house sale, 30 April-2 May 1984, lot 60. Much of the furniture at Belton was almost certainly supplied by Gillows.
