AN IMPORTANT DOCUMENTARY FAMILLE ROSE PUNCHBOWL
circa 1755
Finely enamelled at the centre of the interior with Neptune and his consort, Amphitrite, entwined in billowing drapery on a large shell-shaped carriage drawn by a pair of rearing horses with the tails of fish, amidst waves, fish and mermaids, below an elaborate leafy scroll linking six sea shells at the rim, the exterior with three images of a sailing ship, each with a different number of sails extended beneath three captions within ribbons, 'Ship Latham bound to Bombay & China', 'Ship Latham at Whampoa' and 'Ship Latham towards Old England', all on a continuous choppy sea and divided by large whales
