The canted rectangular simulated marble top with stiff-leaf and egg-and-dart moulded edge above three drawers decorated with scrolling foliage above three drawers decorated with scrolling foliage and centred by palm-wrapped cartouches flanked by guilloche carved angles, the side panels with a carved flowerhead, above a guilloche and flowerhead carved lower edge, on paw feet, the handles replaced, possibly Provence

A number of constructional features as well as the use of walnut together with poplar indicate that this commode was not executed in Paris, but probably in Provence. A related commode, from the collection of Henry Ford II, was sold at Sotheby's New York, 25 February 1978, lot 81.
