Julien Le Roy was Director of the Fernch Société des Arts in the early eighteenth century. A clock-maker by trade, he worked closely with the two finest French instrument-makers of the time, Lemaire and Langlois. He was responsible for several inventions which were then constructed by one or the other of these makers, such as the sundial offered here.
