In two parts: the upper section with arched molded pediment crest centering an applied carved miniature fireman's hose carriage, on a molded edge above glass doors opening to molded shelves; the conforming lower section with a slant lid decorated with applied molding centering a metal plaque reading "Presented to/William A. Woodhull/by the members and honorary members of OCEANA HOSE CO. NO. 36" with the names of the presenting committee and "NEW YORK, NOV. 7 1855," the plaque surrounded by a scroll and strapwork cartouche, opening to a writing surface backed by a central compartment flanked by pigeonholes over single drawers, all above two doors with molded panels flanked by volutes, on a molded base with bun feet
