Private Charles Henry Berry, aged 30 years, of Old Brompton, was killed in action on 24.8.1916 while serving with the 3rd Battalion at Leipzig Salient and is commemorated on Thiepval Memorial. Going forward on 24 August at 4.10 p.m. with the 1st Wiltshires attacking the Hindenburg Trench, the 3rd Battalion fought with bomb and bayonet and eventually captured their objective under tremendous bombardment which resulted in 234 casualties.
