Lieutenant Kenneth Nowell McKenzie, aged 21 years, who was from Sleaford, Lincolnshire and educated at Haileybury and Queen's College, Cambridge was killed in action on 4.6.1915 at Gallipoli. He is commemorated on Cape Helles Memorial. The Rev. D.S. McKenzie wrote 'A very gallant attack was made, but your brother and his men came under the concentrated fire of some machine-guns, and only one returned... This man reported that your brother was killed. I regret to say that his body was never recovered, as the area where he was killed was not recaptured till 28 June. He must have been buried by the Turks, as they were allowed at that time to bury all dead under the Red Cross flag...'
