Lance-Corporal Leonard Buckle, aged 23 years, was killed in action on 3.9.1916 on the Somme and is buried in Connaught Cemetery, Thiepval. Captain Tempest noted 3 September as 'the blackest day in the history of the Battalion', when they attacked enemy trenches near St. Pierre Divion at 5.10 a.m. - heavy losses were made by machine-gun fire during the attack on the enemy front line, where, hand to hand fighting took place and strong German counter-attacks forced a withdrawal. Total casualties amounted to 241 of all ranks.

Private Percival Buckle, aged 27 years, was killed in action on 2.10.1917 and is commemorated on Tyne Cot Memorial.

Lance-Corporal Tom Buckle, aged 22 years, the youngest brother of Leonard and Percival, died of wounds on 29.10.1918 and is buried in Awoingt British Cemetery.
