Diverse and personalized decoration made tuis among the most popular forms of paille work. Able to hold messages, glasses, cigarettes and perfumes among other things, etuis owed much of their form and decoration to silver and porcelain accessories. Similar etuis are illustrated in L. de Caunes, et. al., La Marqueterie de Paille, Paris, 1993, p. 108, fig. 91.
