Andy Schrer, author of Private Elvis, Elvis In Germany - The Missing Years obatained these lyrics, and those in lot 111, from Frau Pieper, Elvis Presley's landlady in Germany, who rented her house to the Presleys at 14 Goethestrasse, Bad Nauheim, Germany in 1959 during Elvis' army service.

These lyrics, like the other examples of lyrics in Presley's hand to have been offered at auction and sold through these rooms in 1996, 1997 and 1998, came from Presley's personal notebook. Elvis had left this behind with his landlady in Germany when he returned to the States in 1960. He apparently used to rehearse in the living room of the house he rented from Frau Pieper using a piano he hired for the purpose.

The only other known example of song lyrics composed by Elvis Presley were sold through these rooms on 6th June, 1996.

Elvis worshipped his mother Gladys, and was devastated by her death in Memphis on August 14th, 1958, at the age of 46, during her son's term of service with the U.S. Army in West Germany. At the time of her death Presley apparently said I just lost everything I had.. He said of their relationship ...everyone loves their mother but I was an only child and my mother was always with me, all my life, and it wasn't only like losing a mother, it was like losing a friend, a companion, someone to talk to...

Hank Williams is well-documented as being one of Presley's favourite artists, and although Presley did not record this particular song he did record two other Williams compositions You're Cheating Heart and I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry, 1974.
