Captain Fane Wright Stapleton Murray served in the Guerilla War as an Officer in the 12th Lancers and was involved in the hunt for Gideon Scheepers. Before 1914 he earned himself an unusual reputation in Africa as one of the few men to have hunted lions with a pack of fox-hounds and on the outbreak of hostilities accompanied his Regiment to France. He was 'shot through the heart' in the trenches at Wytchaete on 30.10.1914.
