A toilet jar was found at Fustat decorated in very much the same way as the present lot (Pinder-Wilson, R. and Scanlon, G.: "Glass Finds from Fustat, 1964-1971", Journal of Glass Studies, Corning Museum, Vol.XV, 1973, pp.29-30, no.25). It was discovered in an undisturbed sewer dateable to the 9th or 10th century. Two further similarly decorated pieces, a hanging lamp and a small jug, both formerly in the Kofler Collection, are now in the al-Sabah Collection, Kuwait (refs. LNS 42KG and LNS 53KG).
