A rare 17th-Century four double-bulb sand glass,
the gilt-brass frame of rectangular polygonal form and finely engraved with strapwork, foliate decoration, the centre reserve on both upper and lower faces engraved with a vase containing flowers, edged with a moulded section, the frame with silvered upper and lower frieze and protective guards for the bulbs, and separated by ten slender brass rod pillars, the four double-bulbs of different time span, filled with fine amber-coloured sand and bound at the centre with red silk and fine brass wire -- 9in. (20.9cm.) wide, 4.7/8in. (12.4cm.) high
