signed CHAPOTOT A PARIS on the inclining plate engraved with an hour scale (?) IIII-XII-VIII, the folding gnomon with bird support engraved with a latitude scale 0-56, the horizontal plate with the names and latitudes of twenty cities and towns, the compass box with finely modelled iron needle with brass cap, the underside with foliate decoration and the names and latitudes of a further twenty-one continental cities and towns -- 2in. (7cm.) long
