Jo Hedley kindly confirmed the attribution to La Fosse, pointing out a comparable drawing in the Victoria & Albert Museum, Londo; the present drawing is datable earlier than that of the same subject sold in these Rooms, 30 January 1998, lot 183. The latter drawing was related to the picture in Versailles painted circa 1701.
