The present lot is probably a second version of lesser merit of a picture by Il Cavalier d'Arpino in a private collection (see J. Faldi and H. Rottgen, Giuseppe Cesari Il Cavalier d'Arpino (1568-1640), exhibition catalogue, june-july, Palazzo Venezia, Roma, 1973, p.83A).
