A rare 13-inch (33cm.) diameter moon globe made up of twelve green and yellow gores the far side of the moon left blank, the equatorial and meridian graduated in degrees, with named lunar regions, seas, craters and mountains, with new Russian information labelled in red, the edge of the dark side of the moon inscribed Grenze des von der automastischen interplanetaren Station (Lunik 3) am 7.10.1959 fotographierten Gebietes, the Imbrium Sea inscribed Aufshlagstelle der sowjetischen komischen Rakete (Lunik 2) am 13.9.1959, on a bakelite plinth base -- 17in. This is a rare moon globe recording interplanetary Russian space travel of 1959, before the 'back' of the moon had been recorded by the American Apollo flights. Although the photographic information for this globe was taken in 1959, the publishers were only able to obtain the information in 1963, probably to 'advertise' the Russians' space supremacy. Hermann Haack (1872-1966) was being an author of globes, first published in 1914 by Justus Perthes in Gotha.
