Now almost a forgotten master, Peeter Snijers was one of the most important genre- and still life-painters working in Antwerp in the beginning of the 18th century. Working on small scale, he followed the tradition of cabinet painting as exemplified by Jan van Kessel, in which refinement and colour were the most important elements. Copper was the ideal support for these colourful miniature-like still lifes.
